Scalloped Concrete Planters From Thrift Store Bowls

I really like the look of concrete planters and the flexibility they offer in design. I have seen a lot of inspiring versions and was keeping my eyes open at the thrift store for containers that would make great concrete molds.
Luckily I stumbled upon a plastic ruffled candy dish that I knew would give me a cool secondary pattern when filled with concrete.. and I was right.
Using nothing more than some mortar mix, some olive oil cooking spray and the candy dish and mixing bowl, I ended up with some great decorative planters.

The 99c candy dish and stainless steel mixing bowl which will actually create the planting area.
I mixed the mortar mix, added it to the candy dish and pressed the bowl into the center. The void that the mixing bowl leaves in the concrete is what will actually form the "planting area"
