Best Pergola for Sun Relief!

My husband and I were debating between getting a pergola or canopy for our outdoor deck. This is the area that gets the most sun. It's almost unbearable on our deck during summer months. Having an umbrella over our patio table helps but doesn't provide as much shade as we'd like. Plus, who wants to be constantly opening and closing umbrellas? Can't tell you how many times we thought the umbrella will fly through our windows during intense winds. :)
Last summer, we decided it was time to get a fixed structure for our wood deck. Debating between a pergola or canopy, we ultimately opted for the pergola. So glad that we did! 1) Stepping out of the sliding doors off our dining room, you will see this view. More details and pictures HERE
Here's another angle:
I even hung paper lanterns on the pergola for our "Fourth of July" party.

I had one I bought for Lowe's. Did you purchase it there? Check on warranty. I got three years use out of mine.

Does anyone know where to purchase/order a waterproof cover? I have the exact same pergola and too much rain.

Saw this at Lowes and thought about getting it,...then i read the reviews about how it will start rusting in a few months,....becoming unsightly,...and if the canopy is left up year round it will only last a few yrs. ...some owners even tried to seal it first and it still rusted,....better off with one made of treated wood.

Your right mine only lasted one year. I took the shade off for winter and put it back on this month but the wind tore it up. I'm going to see if the company will do something about the shade.
  • Does this hold water ? We had bought a canvas type cover and it held water and stretch out and got holes in it.

FYI....we had one something like this a few years until the fabric wore out and ripped. We then took black plastic lattes and screwed it to the railing on top. Good shade and works great through our Indiana snow too . Had to use black because there was no dark brown. you cannot tell either
