Vingate Metal Lawn Chair Gets a New Life!

Easy
This old lawn chair was a beautiful in its heyday in the '40s and '50s and had a long life of service to its family. One day the man of the house sat down to enjoy some of its cooling comfort...for the last time. Creak, pop, bend. So...he picked it up and put it in the scrap pile to await its next life, saying, "So long, good friend, you served us well."
Then, the lady of the house came to the rescue and plucked it from the collection of rusted and dented debris. "Oh, no. You still have lots to give us and we still love you."
This is how much of it looked when I dragged it from the pile of bent and broken trash. I set to it with a wire brush and a good bath of Spic & Span. Much of the rust flaked off, as did some of the many layers of paint from its former, more cheerful life. It racked and rocked in spite of it NOT being a rocking chair and there was an icky break in the metal of the front edge of the seat.
I brought it back to my capable husband who tightened all the nuts and bolts as best as could be done and also hammered in a wooden brace to strengthen the edge where the metal had split. Not much else could be done to make the chair more secure but better than nothing.
What could be the fate of this sad and sorry old chair?
Ahhhh! I feel better already. I have a nice coat of cool blue paint and my joints have been tightened, but...why did they cut a big hole in my seat? I'm beginning to wonder what my family has in store for me.
A monogram? A title? I'm a "designer" chair. I never would've ever dreamed of such a thing. I feel so special and alive. I don't even care about the hole in my seat.
Just when I thought life couldn't get any better, look at this! Now I get it! The hole in my seat. Look at all the lovely flowers and, by the time they fill out, no one will even see that icky crack in the seat edge. And, what a treat, I have a fine iridescent friend to spend my time with as the flowers grow and the days pass.
Yes, beautiful old chair, you are still loved and will now be able to share your new life with us. But, guess what? We';ll enjoy you even in the evening because I gave you many coats of glow-in-the-dark paint so you can be as radiant in the darkness, along with all the fireflies, as you are in the daytime.

Okay, Mr. DeMille, "I'm ready for my closeup."

@Hannah V Thanks, Hannah. Since I posted the photo, the flowers have doubled in volume. Won't be long before the portulaca spills over the seat edge. It's also fun to go out at night and see the beautiful cool blue "glow."
