Clean them well with soap and water. Scuff them lightly with fine sand paper. Use Krylon Plastic paint on them only, It is designed to work on vinyl gutters, shutter, mail boxes ect.

    Are they old (existing)?
  • I'd clean, prime them with Zinser and then paint with a good quality latex. If they are up on the house already....just note that you might get some blistering if they are in constant sun.

If you spray them, make sure the spray is made for plastic. Clean them well and go to it. I've had success doing this with mine. My wife is always wanting to change the color :)
  • Kim, Use Rustoleum spray paint especially designed to adhere to plastic. You can find this at any big box store. Follow the directions on the can.

I had my faded green vinyl shutters painted four years ago. He pressure washed them first then spray painted them with Sherwin Williams best outdoor paint. They still look great!
  • We actually are using a new Adhesion Primer from Sherwin Williams that is designed to bond paint to vinyl better than the ZInser 1-2- 3 primer we normally use. We're using it on a project right now. You can tint the primer to match the final top-coat to avoid flashing and multiple coats of paint.
