DIY Budget Backyard Makeover

4 Materials

Our backyard was a blank canvas when we bought our house. Gravel, weeds, and an unfortunate looking fence.
Last year, we brought it to life by DIYing a deck and a paver patio, planting grass and a garden, and building some low-cost furniture for eating and lounging. Pallets were our best friend, and worked perfectly for the two of us and the occasional backyard BBQ.
A year later, we decided to step it up a notch and make the space more conducive to entertaining. We swapped our pallet chair for built in benches, built a bright coffee table, stained the fence, purchased a larger dining table, and added some new pillows to our collection.
We love the way it turned out, and our guests do too!
It's not perfect, but it's a big improvement over the gravel that was previously there.
Next up on the list of improvements to this space: Fill in the patchy grass, stain the deck so it matches the benches, and purchase a colorful umbrella for our dining table.
Cost Breakdown (both makeovers combined): Deck - $220 Deck benches and coffee table - $125 Stain - $50 Patio - $210 Landscaping - $150 Dining table - $150 Dining chairs - $180 Pillows and rug (Target + DIY)- $100 Total cost: $1,185 Head over to our blog for more details and product information!

can you provide plans/instructions on how you constructed the deck? I've wanted to do something like this for my back yard but not quite sure how to even begin. The deck plans I've checked out at the DIY stores are way to expensive for my budget

Have you thought about a tree on the other side of the sidewalk? A twenty foot tree would give you some shade.
