DIY Faux Mercury Glass Vase
Just before school was out, my friend Suzanne and I were on an early morning run when I spotted a vase in a cardboard box set out for the trash man. I liked the shape of the vase and the heavy weight of the glass, so home with me it came. It was dirty and had crusty deposits on the rim of the vase in the folds. The dirt was easy to remove, but the deposits, not so much. After scrubbing and scrubbing, I was able to remove most of the deposits with a wet sanding block. It still wasn't perfect, so I decided to give it a new look: faux mercury glass.
I like how the peach color peeks out from under the Mirror Effect paint.
This is the before picture. I took this after I removed most of the ugly deposits that were around the rim. I few I couldn't remove no matter how hard I tried.
These are the supplies that I used. I sprayed the vase with a 1:1 mixture of vinegar and water, sprayed with Mirror Effect paint, waited 2 minutes, then dabbed with a paper towel. I repeated the process 3x but could have stopped after the second spray coat.
