Short when I plugged in my AC

I plugged in an air conditioner and half my lights went out . I went to the breaker box and it is ok what should I do?

If the circuit breaker did not trip then I suspect you have a loose connection somewhere within that circuit. I advise you to call an electrician. A loose connection can arc and create a serious fire hazard.

Also check for a tripped GFCI outlet, these can confuse people, including pros, when they trip..

Did you flip the breaker even though it didn't look tripped. I have one that doesn't look tripped but you flip it and it comes back on.

Not very common for light and plug circuits to be on the same breaker, Get an Electrician to revert your DB to law standards.

@D & K Can be a common supply to those lighting and plug trip switches that are loose. The common rule to balancing loads on different Phases is to do it o n the input side of the Trip switches with different ratings for lighting circuits and duplex outlets. I the circuits that share a Pase is the only ones that went out it is a lose connection on that supply Phase. Does not make any difference in what country you are the basics is the same and AC circuits react the same. The question from the original poster indicate an unqualified person trying to do the work of a professional registered person, regulated by legislation also in your country. The law abiding advice is get a Electrician to prevent your house from burning down as a AC unit current over a lose connection can start a fire at any time.

@ Penny, if you unplug the AC do the lights come back on, or are you still in darkness in those areas? A Short Circuit will trip the breaker or burn the wiring because SC means that the hot and neutral circuits are directly connected to each other or down to earth. A lose connection mean that there is a resistor (Act like a heater)in series with the supply to that circuit and it generate enough heat to start a fire where the lose connection is.
