We found wet carpet in a basement apartment. The plumber said there were no leaks it was coming from outside thru the foundation. The area around the house needs to be regraded and a drain installed, maybe even redo two window wells.I don't know where to start to get this fixed.

There are foundation and waterproofing specialists, who are the best people for this kind of work. I know there are a lot of Hometalkers in Georgia. I'm guessing somebody will have a specific local recommendation for you.

I'm hoping for a specific response in the Tucker area. Thanks, tho.

  • Just be weary of inside system repairs. As these are the most common types and can offer a solution to most issues. These inside systems are NOT water proofing but water control systems. The only true water proofing system is one where they dig to the footing in the suspected area, Reseal the foundation with new more modern sealants and membranes, correct the drainage tile that should have been there and back fill properly with clean gravel and soils near the top. Many people think that pitching the soil is the solution, while this may slow down the water entry, water can move sideways underground,. This is called a spring. It is not a cheap way of preventing water from coming into your house, but it is the right way to do this. Check with your insurance company, you may have some sort of coverage that protects you if the system that holds the water out fails. And in your case it has.
