I have an idea for creating a ceiling fan with a light attachment made of sewing hoops but I don't know what to look for as a base for the actual light fixture.

Try browsing your local thrift stores. I often find parts for DIY projects there. If you're anything like me you'll know it when you see it.

What about a Bicycle wheel. Its light weight if you are going to attached to a sheetrock/drywall ceiling. Plus it is round like the sewing hoops.

Do you have any idea of what you MIGHT want? What about a bowl...like a wooden bowl to go with the wood of the sewing hoops? A wooden spool from thread but a large industrial sized one. What are you envisioning for it?

Thrift stores often have old c fans. Use an old one for fixture portion.
