Foggy double glazing

I am renting a cottage while my house is rented out post divorce....one of the panes in the living room double glazing has condensation between the panes. Looks bad, but don't want to bother my landlords with the repair (they are, um, not keen on doing stuff like this..any ideas??) Hair dryer..lighter fluid????? What?????..

The seal has broken between the planes and you should call a glass repair shop..

My son works at a glass shop...nothing you can do as Vanessa said, the seal is broken and the condensation will stay there. The glass needs to be replaced.

@Bonny McDaniel Additionally to other good advice if you can find the company that originally installed them they should replace the for free. Usually have a guarantee for the life of the window. It happened to me when 3 windows had seals that failed. Wendy's idea of using a hair dryer is what I tried first. I ended up getting it too hot and cracked one of the window panes. They still replaced it. It is absolutely the responsibility of your landlord. You did nothing to cause it and he should have someone of his choice take care of it. If you bring someone in then you may have automatically accepted responsibility for the future of the window.

Had this problem for years with a cottage we rent in southern Maine. Kept complaining....FINALLY...they replaced it last year.

Yes, the info Columbia1 gave you is good if there is still a warranty on the windows. Some companies are good about honoring their warranties, even years later. There might be a sticker on the window that indicates the installing company and/or the manufacturer.

Since you're bothered by the "haze" of moisture on the window and a fix or replacementmay not be feasible, you may want to look into "hiding" it. If you want the daylight to come through and don't mind some extra privacy, I would suggest using static cling window film on the window or windows. It comes in a clear film with frosted patterns that might cover the haze or make it much less noticeable. It's available at DIY stores in the UK like B&Q, and a 68cm wide by 1.5m roll is £6.98. Good luck!
