How to make an extra room function both as a bedroom and office.

Once a bedroom, I would know like to use this room as an office while still having it available for guests to use when they stay at the house.

My extra bedroom is used as my office, reading room, and guest bedroom for one person. It contains a bookcase, a traditional style furniture desk for computer, etc. and a hideaway bed/chesterfield for my granddaugher when she visits. Functions well in all three capacities.

Hideaway bed to start with. For night stands, use the 2 drawer file cabinets (painted or a table cloth over it). Could repurpose a 9 drawer dresser, leaving either 7 or 5 drawers intact so a chair will fit there.

Great ideas from the others. Consider a daybed which can serve as a sofa for office, but sleep 2 guests comfortable with the trundle. Use a tailored daybed cover & window coverings so that the office doesn't look to 'bed-roomy.'

I love the daybed suggestion, it's what I'm planning to do myself. Depending on what you *need* in the room would dictate what you'd end up doing though. Do you need a filing cabinet in your office? Do you need a desk? I'll be using 4 out of 8 dresser drawers for my office storage and some room in the closet for storage as well as a small desk. But I don't need a lot of space or storage.

A bedroom can easily transform into office with just a few simple modifications. You can close your working area off from view with a curtain, door, or screen. Customization of room also depends on your work habits.

A trundle bed is what I use. Pile it with pillows to make it look like a couch.

I just completed my office/guest bedroom. I bought a Wooden Futon couch that is a sofa during the day and can be made into a bed at night. Once we got home I put thin pieces of plywood and zip tied them down to the metal frame This makes for a much more comfortable bed. During the day a couch and at night a fold down bed. I found a short wooden kids stool at the thrift store and made it the night stand. With the cover on the futon the stool fits under it until needed. So far so good, hope this helped.

We have a queen size Murphy bed my husband built after our daughter got married and we turned her bedroom into an office. It looks like a beautiful enclosed bookcase closed and after she spends the night we just close it up! We love it and she wishes she had it growing up!!

There is a bed that folds up like a murphy bed but it is a shelf and portable. It is a little pricey but very nice piece of furniture

Couch/trundle bed .Seating in the day time and 2 nice twin beds at night.
