5 Ways to Fix Your Funky Flip Flops

1. Coffee Grounds

Submerging your sandals in a bag of coffee grounds will neutralize the smell. You can leave your favorite pair in a bag of grounds overnight if the problem’s pretty mild. If you’re prone to stinky feet on the reg, just get in the habit of storing your sandals in a bag of ground when you’re not wearing them. You’ll need to replace the coffee grounds once a month.

Tip: Just be careful not to brew coffee with your sandal grounds. It’ll taste like feet.

2. Dryer Sheets

Putting your sandals in a plastic bag with a few dryer sheets overnight is a safe and effective way to freshen up funky smells.

3. Freeze Your Sandals

Completely seal your sandals in a plastic bag, and then place in a freezer for 24 hours to kill bacteria and foul smells. Allow some defrost time before wearing (unless you don’t have AC…then it could be kind of nice).

4. Essential Oils

A couple drops of cedarwood or sandalwood essential oil on the sole of each shoe will leave behind a fresh scent, and it’s safe enough to use everyday.

5. Baking Soda

The classic de-stinking material. This trick is great for rubber sandals, which are prone to collecting dirt and stink because they’re porous. Baking soda is also safe for leather and suede, so you can’t go wrong! Sprinkle baking soda onto the sandals, let them sit for five minutes, and then wash off gently with a combination of water and vinegar.
