Banana Lotus

Question

The banana lotus has been here since 2004.  Bloomed the first year but has not bloomed since.  Does anyone know if there is some fertilizer/food it needs?  The plant is very healthy.  What I love about it is the flower is huge and lasts for at least a month when it blooms.

Like any other flowering plant, it probably needs fertilizer. Should be grown in organically rich soil. Do you fertliize it regularly during the growing season?

No I don't fertilize it because I thought it was like my banana plants that get nothing but water. Now I'm going to read the links you sent and I thank you.

Ok, I read the links and I'm told to fertilize it with a balanced fertilizer. Does balanced mean like 10-10-10 or 5-5-5? Any suggestions on the fertilizer? I will feed it as soon as I know what it wants. I want to see the flower again.

I recently cut off 2 of the pups and have them in a large pot. I plan to bring them indoors when it gets colder than 60 degrees. I'll be sure to feed them, too.

It is now 3 years later and the Banana Lotus finally has a bloom. I have to believe two things helped. One was a little food and the second was not leaving it out in very cold winters. I must thank all of you that mentioned the plant feeding.
