Remodeling mobile home on a budget!!

Question

Needed something quick and on a budget. Did it myself and still in the process! NEED to remodel chairs, crown molding, and outlets. Any extra ideas will help!!

Great progress so far! Could you do longer curtains (closer to the ceiling and to the floor)? I think an area rug would look nice under the table and you could do a pop of color you like as a slip cover on the chairs.

If they are in good condition, I would leave them original. I would brighten and double up on the curtains and maybe add some splashes of a bright color here and there. Maybe Red (for Retro) if you like that color. But....good job so far! Love the Marilyn Posters!

Definitely need to add some color. It looks like you have a mantle of sorts against the wall, you could buy some knick knacks at a thrift store and spray paint them bright colors to sit on the mantle. I would also recover the chairs.

Red, or retro aqua, orange or lime would be great pops of colour and work well with black and white.

You've made a good start and you have a creative eye. Walmart has twin flat sheets for $5 that you could use for longer curtains and the colors and patterns are pretty neat. The design 'weight' of your room is bottom heavy so draw the eye up with interesting wall displays. Add color! Most of all, have fun! Make a list of things you are looking for from thrift stores and yard sales. You'll be surprised how quickly your brain recognizes something on your list.

Nice job so far! I would NOT change the color of the chairs. The upholstery looks good and the whole idea of MCM was that the color of the chairs matched the table top. I'd add some bright accessories and check out retrorenovation.com for some GREAT MCM ideas! Keep posting pictures-we're loving it!

What did you do to the walls...sheetrock or paint? I lived in a mobile home for 18 years.......you can do a lot to them. I met a woman once who turned her mobile home into a log cabin. I think the curtain at your window is too short...........Christmas Tree store has lots of other options on a budget, also nice rugs,table runners, placemats

I've remodeled my entire mobile home. I am now re-doing my bedroom into a 'beach house'. Take advantage of yard sales, thrift shops, curb alerts, and dollar stores. I have things I'm using, (such as mosaic wall tile for baseboard) that weren't intended to be used that way. I've also used porcelain tile (rough, darker color) for a fireplace 'hearth'. Just go shopping with an open mind, be creative. I put discontinued wallpaper on my living room and kitchen, if you can find it. I did it over 10 years ago and it still looks like new. The kitchen print has brightly colored fruits on white background. You can also get paintable wallpaper at WalMart for around $11.00 a roll. I put some of that on two of the office walls and just left it in white. I've gotten several things from Habitat for Humanity stores at a very good price. I used a stretchable 'fence' as lower wall décor in my 'beach house' and put sea grass and pods on it and the walls. Good luck!

I love the table and chairs. I don't like long curtains because they're dust catchers and I think they make a small room seem smaller. I would actually shorten them to the length of the window so you don't see the window sill through the sheers. Keep the chairs white; it's a great set. I also like the idea of teal and/or orangy coral accents. And I agree that thrift shops and garage sales are great places to find things. I have found the pieces I get there. Have better bones than $ store. Looks great so far!

Does anyone know a reliable piece advising how to go about redoing an ancient trailer into four season use up here in the North of Canada????? Disabled but willing to go slow and steady with extremely limited budget. As in food is tough once in a while, lol, but I always find a way….

I've been remodeling a 30 yr old single wide in Montana for the last year. Paint has been my best friend. Everything was brown--I opted for bright colors, everywhere. For the windows I got pleated shades from Amazon--cut to size, stick-on, $25. I hung colorful tapestries from DENY ($49) with clip on rings. I painted my outlets (plug the holes) and cover plates with stainless steel spray paint. I've had so much fun transforming a sad old trailer that I bought a vintage Shasta travel trailer to refurbish--all trailer all the time. Have fun!

Hi Rosie, hubby and I bought a 1968 40ft. trailer last year in very sad condition.  We're literally taking it down to the studs and floor joists a room at a time, then upgrading to current standards, including new windows.   We're also on a fixed income but youtube has tons of videos that have taught us how to DIY and save money.  Craigslist is a great resourse if you keep an open mind and don't mind cleaning and painting your finds!

A lady I just saw her blog put floor tiles on walls and back splash. It is really pretty neat. I lived in 3 mobile homes. The best part was outside. I hope to never have to live in one again. Best of luck. Google is your friend as well as UTube.

Scrub those walls with a detergent to remove any oily residue. Then paint the paneling with a good primer. You now can paint the walls any light color you want. The paneling lines make the walls look like beautiful wainscotting. Light colors will make the rooms look larger and more inviting.

I would find some waterproof fabric in a vintage motif, maybe a little red.  Crown molding high gloss white, spray paint outlet covers or use fabric to cover outlets.

When my Hubby died I lost my 2000 sq. ft. house & ended up in a 30+ yr. old 590sq ft. single wide with plywood floors, bare studs, & no kitchen & no finished bath.  Only one room had paneling intact - Painted kiles overall then painted lower part a very pale blue with semi gloss white on top of wall.  Bought some 3' floor molding & nailed over paint seam.  Like wainscoting. The rest of my place took more vigorous renovation.  99% completed & super proud of myself as I am 70 yrs. young.

Is there an address for mobile home re-modeling? I've been working on my 1968 since 1993 redoing walls and floors. Front bath has been re done and finished as has the kitchen. Have replaced all windows and outside doors! Love my house!
