Super Purple! Apply product let sit for 30 minutes and power wash! Sand and use deck wash to restore ph balance.
Thank you for the advice. Just built a new deck with untreated wood. I decided to use a clear Thompson Water Seal. It had been on for 2 weeks and we had a downpour and now I have water spots. Do you think the ammonia and water trick will remove everything so I can start over? Thanks for your advice in advance. Rebecca
If the first attempt does not improve it enough do another solution and let it soak for at least an hour
Thanks John. Just worried the diluted ammonia with discolor the areas of our redwood deck where the Thompson water seal has already worn off. Ending up with a light and dark areas. Could this happen? Do you recommend using a brightener afterwards to neutralize the high pH of ammonia?
Well if u r worried u can delete it at a 4-1 dilution ratio. The color of redwood is through thr entire piece of wood and should not bleach. I thought that the tree huggers had outlawed redwood for decks. For about the same money u can get an Ipe deck which is 6 times more durable than redwood
I applied Thompson's sealer to my Epoxy painted garage floor. It was for concrete and brick and stucco. It has been sticky for 3 weeks. Any suggestion on how to remove it without taking off the paint ?
We used one with a darker tint and each can was vastly different, deck looks like sh%t (no other term adequately describes it). Will the ammonia remove the pigment?
After applying the ammonia mixture, do you just pressure wash it off ? Do you advise sanding at all after ? Live and learn I should have researched , will warn everyone not to use their products!
I used both of your suggestion for removing Thompson's 1 to 1 part ammonia and then later in post saw you said, 7 parts ammonia to one water. I did both and nothing happened. Can you tell me what I did wrong ,please?
So I made a huge error of putting a sealant over a stain. I used Thompson’s Waterproof sealant. The gentleman at Lowe’s didn’t see a problem with a sealant over a stain so I used it but our deck is so greasy. Any suggestions on getting the sealant off? I really don’t want to strip the deck but if I have to I will because we want to use the deck but can’t because it’s so greasy.
Finally a straight up answer base in knowledge of the product. Thank you. Being that TSP cleans wax and grease, would it make any significant headway in the cleaning process?
Used Thompson water seal on cedar wood picnic table and pergola. Let the wood dry for a few weeks. Sealed it and now we are getting mildew spots! And the wood smells like chemicals! What can we do?
I only recommend rosewood oil based stains. It penetrates and protects better.
I used solid Dark mocha color Flood stain on an exterior hand made wood sign holds up amazing. 2 years later looks the same, no fade from wind lots of rain , snow extreme sun shine, heat -west coast British Colombia
Yes I have heard good things about it but I am still sold on a Rosewood oil sealer because it absorbs into the wood and drys NOT STICKY
Paint remover is too harsh and the residual can causes problems with the new sealer
