Considering cork for kitchen floor. Have a small dog. Does it wear well? Cleaning/gouges from dropping things make it hard for upkeep?

I had cork flooring in my office lobby!! It faired pretty well, EXCEPT for one person who wore very high heels....poked holes in the floor repeatedly. Other than that, I loved the floor. If you have young children or dogs with non-manicured nails, I would suggest another type of flooring. Hope this helps!

I brought 2 cork floor samples home: 1 dark, 1 natural, and they became stained with water. Do you need to seal them with poly?

I've seen it installed in a daycare and it held up very well with parent and child traffic. Not so sure about how it would hold up with animals.

i have cork flooring (Tigris from World Floors Direct) which was installed throughout the house 2 years ago. i have 5 kids and a dog and live on a lake (sand comes into the house most days lol). the floors haven't been sealed and are holding up very well. i love the comfort and easy maintenance. one note... i have glass windows facing south that receive direct sunlight and within a few months the floors began to fade from sun exposure. subsequently, i've installed blinds and will be changing out the doors and windows for uv protection. wish i would have known beforehand!

@Susan E ahaha... so funny, but they are older and i would never post pics of their rooms and im ok with that mess. we are all happy, and a mess never killed anyone. when i purchased and renovated the house i included a lot of storage spaces to hide all the necessary "junk". enjoy and don't worry about the mess!

I bought a white cork floor and it did not hold up well with my little dog. I believe the darker floors are sturdier. I love the warmth and comfort of it in my kitchen. I am planning on updating my kitchen and have some exra pieces that I can and will replace where she has dug into. (at the doorway, she is a chi/shih/pom mix but I call her my little nottweiller!).

In general, they hold up very well in kitchens, and my customers have loved it. I would recommend getting on that is mid toned/cork colored rather than dark/gray/white as they tend to hold up better/look better longer. And, choosing one with more color/texture variation will look better longer.

We put a floating cork floor in our great room over two years ago and still love it! We did have a refrigerator leak that required replacing a couple of planks. Scratches disappear with a stain stick. It's warm and easy to keep clean. We would not hesitate to install it again.
