What to do, interior design, small living room

Lagree Wyndham on Jul 13, 2015OK this is just my opinion and we all have one....you definitely need to add an accent color, perhaps a grey similar to lamp shade in pic, you need something to make the walls pop. Also you did not ask but I;m offering, the furniture is way to big for the space, down size to a love seat and a couple of nice chairs. Also add some artwork with color, if you don't want to paint walls ,something that will stand out against the light colored walls, I would also replace light fixture it just kinda vanishes, there is nothing to make it stand out, get a bolder fixture. Smaller furniture and an area rug/plus coffee table would make it cozy.Helpful Reply

Carol Steinmiller on Jul 13, 2015Paint the fireplace wall (which juts out) an accent color. Mount your flat screen tv on the accent wall. Move your large sofa to the wall where loveseat, table, and hamster cage was. Buy an accent rug which picks up color of accent wall and other new colors. Buy accent pillows to match colors in the new rug.Helpful Reply

Polly Zieper on Jul 13, 2015well, you can't make the room bigger, but you can make the furniture smaller, or at least appear smaller.I'd replace the furniture 1 piece at a time as you can manage it with something less 'solid looking' and dark, with furniture with more open spaces, like your light fixture, and a lighter color, almost like patio furniture, look at goodwill and salvation Army for lighter-looking furniture.Maybe you can do one piece every few months, and sell your stuff to help pay for new.Helpful Reply

Polly Zieper on Jul 13, 2015And if you need curtains for privacy, don't get drapes, use sheers or cafe curtains, just on the bottom half of the windows, or hanging fringe or beads instead of solid curtains.- please post pictures if you do decide to change the room:)Helpful Reply

Polly Zieper on Jul 13, 2015I just read the other comments, and I agree about a loveseat, you don't have to have a sofa. a loveseat and 2 chairs is fine, too.Helpful Reply

Polly Zieper on Jul 13, 2015papering 1 wall is a good idea, so it doesn't look too busy, or a wallpaper border at ceiling level or chair-rail height, light colors only....brown looks nice with pink, light blue, turquioseHelpful Reply

Kayo Frazier on Jul 13, 2015Ok, Here's my 2 cents...This is going to be tricky, but I will give it a shot...I would paint all the walls. Stonington Grey by Benjamin Moore https://www.pinterest.com/pin/532621093406456445/ Then I would paint the trim & windows White Dove by Benjamin Moore. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/532621093406456454/ 1st~ I can't tell whether it is the inner glass door or your front door so this may or may not work, BUT if it is an inner glass door, I would flip it around so that it opens/closes from the left side instead of the right side. This little detail will make the rest of my suggestions make sense hopefully. 2nd ~ Your furniture is way too big for the room. So, I would edit the furniture by removing the sofa. Place it in another part of the house/apt. or put it in storage. 3rd ~ I would place the love seat on the wall bet. the front door & hallway door. Make sure to leave yourself enough room for opening/closing the front door. Place 2 small ottomans in front (this can also be extra seating) then add small mirror trays on top for a hard surface. 4th ~ Remove the TV and stand from that kitty corner. Then, you can either DIY or hire someone to make a radiator cover out of wood & screen to go the full length of that short wall under the window & make it level w/ the window sill. Something like this...https://www.pinterest.com/pin/483151866250648679/ Paint it the same white as the trim & windows. 5th ~ Then I would get 2 club chairs for extra seating. Place one chair where the TV & stand used to be & one chair next to the front door. That way you can still get heat into the room when you need it. 6th ~ On the wall opposite the front door & window I would replace the tiny table you are using for the TV with one that is bigger you could find a long, low credenza or dresser at a thrift store & refurbish it. The extra drawers can be modified for any electronic equipment, or even storage. 7th ~ Ok last thing, the fireplace & wall...For the bumped out wall part I would paint it teal zeal by olympic. Then you can frame out the fireplace with this tile...It is 2" x 2" so you can probably double it to 4" x 4" to make it thicker. http://www.wayfair.com/Daltile-Ocean-Jewels-2-x-2-Running-Board-Accent-Tile-in-Mother-of-Pearl-OJ0322RB1L-L6059-K~DAI1523.html?refid=GX134665 then I would add floating shelves zig zagged up the wall for artwork, vases, and mirrors. Hope this helps.Helpful Reply

Marion Nesbitt on Jul 13, 2015Can't tell what the wall colour is - looks white on my app. From what i see (right or wrong), I think there is too much contrast between the wall colour and your dark furniture. Have you thought of mounting the TV above the fireplace to free up some room? Just my opinion, but think you need some colourful accessories. I would look for modern art pics, some cushions and an area rug, etc. I always try to put the sofa on the longest wall, and try to keep it and chairs pulled out from the walls, even if it is just a few inches or so. Am also a user of plants, real or artificial to soften corners,. If you mount the TV, there would be room for a plant in that corner, and it would also help soften the look of the very masculine furnishings. Perhaps the addition of a mirror would give the illusion of more space.Helpful Reply
