DIY Monogram Wall Art

I have been wanting to do a gallery wall for quite some time now and decided it is now or never. However I need a few more interesting pieces to place on it. I don't want to spend a lot of money on buying something and would rather DIY some art. So I set about to make my first piece.
I decided to make a monogram art piece with Dollar Tree and thrift store finds.
All you need is a black piece of foam core, a thrifted frame in your preferred size, a monogram for a pattern and approximately 600 thumb tacks in your color choice.
You simply cut the foam core to fit the frame, trace around the monogram and then begin filling it in with the thumbtacks. So simple.
I love the way the gold thumbtacks pop against the black of the foam core. I think it may have taken me about 75 minutes to do this. So easy.
This can be used on a tabletop with an easel also. The full tutorial is on the blog along with some other great DIY wall art inspiration from my blogger friends!

Kudos on the thumb tack artwork. But I collect bird cages. It appears to me you refinished the bird cage here, or at least sealed it with a stain or something. Am I correct? If so, please share what you did.
