New Island

I got rid of the bench seating in the kitchen because my kids are all grown and out of the house. My husband and I liked sitting up higher for dinner and I wanted an island in the kitchen. Since islands are expensive to buy, I looked around for other options and found this model home table at Just Like the Model for $100.
Since the cabinet was not quite tall enough for bar chairs to sit under, I added a 2x4 structure on top.
I then painted the entire cabinet, inside and out, with 2 coats of chalk paint.
The basket weave on the front doors were not that fun, but they turned out great in the end.
I then painted 2 coats of turquoise chalk paint to the bottom. I decided that I did not want a glass top in the opening, so I built up the difference with a wood platform so I could tile it.
We were given 4 bar chairs that were black iron with wood grain seats. I spray painted the iron off-white and chalk painted the seats with turquoise.
The hardest part was the tiling. I had to buy 3 squares of cream tiles with green and 3 squares of cream tile with blue and then mix them together. Due to little tiles getting away, my husband helped me put in square by square.
and . . . viola! The finished project! The cabinet is 30 x 30 and holds lots of my kitchen equipment.
