I want to paint an art piece for my patio. The art will get rained on so I need to protect it. Can I use acrylic and spray clear coat?

I use "patio paint" or an outdoor kind of acrylic paint. and then I spray several , several layers of a protective. Patio paint or an outdoor paint can be found in craft stores and the spray paint clear cover is found in most hardware stores like valu, home depot.. places like that and sometimes you can get it on sale. lol

I used DecoArt Patio Paint to do this gecko on my patio. I didn't put any type of sealer on it & it still looks great after 2 years. I'm in Phoenix, AZ so it gets a lot of sun & the color is holding up well.
