DIY Bottle Opener

For Christmas last year, I wanted most of my gifts to be handmade. For the women I was giving gifts to, I made picture frames. But for the men, I wanted the gifts to be something they could use. Well, a lot of the men in my and my husband's families are beer drinkers, so I decided I would make them bottle openers. I looked on Pinterest and Etsy for ideas, and then decided on a style I liked. I knew I wanted some type of wording on the wood portion of the opener to give it some decor, so I searched online for a stencil about beer. I finally found one at a site called The Stencil Maker. For around $10, I purchased a stencil saying "Keep Calm and Drink Beer".
Next, I purchased a 1x 6 board that was 6 ft long at Home Depot. I made three of these bottle openers, so I cut three 16 boards at 20.5 each. I then used Minwax Dark Walnut stain to stain the boards.
On Amazon, I found and purchased the bottle opener and the bottle cap catcher.

Once the dark walnut stain had dried, I taped the stencil to the board, making sure there was enough room above the stencil for the bottle opener, and then enough room below the stencil for the cap catcher. I used Rustoleum Heirloom White spray paint, to LIGHTLY spray over the stencil (also making sure any exposed wood outside of the stencil area was covered up). I did several coats of the white spray paint, spraying very lightly for each coat, as I did not want the paint to bleed under the stencil.
Once I had nice coverage of the stencil, I very carefully removed the stencil and let the paint dry. Once the wording was dry, I screwed on the bottle opener and the bottle catcher, making sure each one was straight, with the provided screws. On Christmas day, the men in my family who received these as gifts absolutely LOVED them!
