My air conditioner unit is running but there is no air coming from vents. I also found ice on the line coming out of the unit going into home? Please help, I'm not sure if this is something we can fix but I want to know a little before I have to call someone and run into an expense I am not sure I would need. Thank you.

The first thing you need to do is turn off your cooling and run only the fan. This helps the unit thaw faster. I would suggest you change your filter and clean your outside unit by spraying it out with your garden hose. once it has thawed turn it back on to see if that helped. It may also have a dirty coil or low on freon. If cleaning it doesnot help at least it will be thawed out before the repair man comes.

Tonia is right! That just happened to us and we had a freon leak. I hope this helps.

With the thermostat set to cool and the fan set to auto check to see if your unit it running outside, fan running and the big line on the outside unit is cold. If the air is not coming out of the registers it could be that the start capacitor that is usually mounted on the side of the blower motor on the inside unit (air handler unit) could be bad or the blower motor could be bad. If you do not know how to check the blower it is best to call an AC professional.

We had the same problem and it was lack of freon; we had a leak somewhere that, unfortunately, we never found. After replacing the freon 3x's we opted for a new system since the freon is now illegal and it was $300 (and going up) a clip to recharge the unit. Good luck.

It is either a dirty air filter or it needs Freon. My husband is a plumber/HVAC guy and ours did the same thing last week. He preaches to me to change the filter at least once a month and twice if it's being used a lot such as in hot weather. Freon isn't illegal if you are a contractor but it does cost way too much.

Mine did that and it was the fan motor on outside part of system

Check the filter. When did you change it last.

Check the fan motor. It may be dirty. Our's was doing the same thing. We replaced the fan and it now freezes us out of house. (I have a friend that does HVAC and he did it as a side job and the price was WAY cheaper. Maybe you could find someone that wants to make a little extra doing a side job)

Based on previous problems, I agree with the earlier comments. Low Freon or a problem with the blower and a problem with a transistor were or causes (this across multiple units and almost 40 years). Several were low Freon. We had that problem this summer on our oldest unit. Its type of Freon will be discontinued and illegal as of 2017 so if it happens again on that unit, it will have to be replaced. Thank goodness our newer unit already has the newer type required.

Your ducts may not be attached any longer. The tape they use to connect them stops sticking after a while and the air goes into your attic. Have a certified A/C person come and do a FREE inspection. They always have an add in your pennysaver and you can negotiate if there are repairs.
