Queen to king headboard

I scored this killer headboard for a song and a dance....but it's a queen and I have a king size bed. Is there anything I can do to extend it so I can use it? Something to make it appear to be a king? Help, I'm stuck!

Paint two vertical columns on the side...for example, sponged...to make it seem the same width visually.

What about adding two wooden posts and attach / screw on either side. Possibly painted / dyed in a colour to suit the rest of room / side tables or colour scheme. Lots of luck and enjoy. its beautiful.

Gorgeous piece. I would build a wooden frame and use it as an inset for the frame.

Big Lots sometimes has metal wall art that you could add to the wall on either side (very close) to appear as part of the headboard, thereby extending the headboard. Obviously the design must be compatible.

If youre going for a "clean" look, I would either paint a rectangle the width of the bed and height of the headboard on the wall or cut one out of wood, or you could put an old distressed shutter on either side.

If you could find wrought gate or a piece of old fence and cut to fit.

@Jenn Williams Sheridan Possible use some sort of posts on either side, something along the lines of a newel post. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Stair-Parts-4010-48-in-x-3-in-Unfinished-Hemlock-Starting-Newel-4010H-048-HD00L/202088496

I would never want to cut this beautiful piece of art. I could see it as frame work to a great climbing rose or other flower.

Get 2 - wooden 4x4's, stain them to match your current bedroom furniture and mount this between then at the appropriate height. You could do something creative on the top of the 4x4's like a wooden deck post ball or some kind of round iron globe or something? Just thoughts....good luck !

A client of mine had a king bed. We could only find a queen headboard that worked with the design ideas of the room.. We used it 'as is', put tall side tables by each side of the bed with lamps on them, and no one noticed it wasn't a king headboard. It was sort of an optical illusion but it worked :-)

Since you need a total of 12, 16 or 18 inches, total for both sides, depending on the which type of king bed you have: California King at 72" wide Standard King at 76" Dual King (made from Twin XL) at 78" wide I would recommend looking for a pair of wrought iron porch posts to extend the sides.

@Jenn Williams Sheridan, I did a virtual for you to show my idea. I would have used real porch posts, but your picture was no dead head on, so I did a mock up using one of the curls from your current bed.

The posts are going to be your best bet as it will give you the extention that you need and you can be very creative with the posts by adding appliques of wood to the posts or use a router to create a design in them.

Perfect for bedroom. On the other hand, it would look awesome in a flower garden! Spray paint clear for weather protection.

The only thing I could think of is if you could find two small wrought iron pieces that would complement this piece to add onto the sides.
