When my husband brought home this bag of birdseed I thought the bag was so pretty that I didn't want to throw it away!
The time came when the bag was empty and I had to come up with something to do with it!
My husband and I travel a good bit and I also occasionally shop at a store where you have to provide your own shopping bags.
So I decided to make this into a tote bag!
The beauty of this is that if you can sew a straight seam, you can easily make this. I used to teach sewing in high school and a tote bag was one of the first projects we made- so this is perfect for beginning sewers!

Another nice thing about re-using pet food bags is that the totes are water resistant and perfect for laundry bags or pool/beach bags!
I used some polka dot ribbon that I had on hand for the handles, but you can also use burlap ribbon or cotton webbing that is sometimes used as belts.

I have all the detailed instructions on the blog so I hope you will stop by the lake so I can assist you in making your very own tote bag!
Of course you can use the tutorial to make a tote bag out of any material and the directions can be adapted for any size bag.

This bag turned out huge because I used a 50 pound bag of bird seed, but you can easily use smaller pet food bags and make a smaller totes!
