Polyurethane on vinyl flooring

Can you polyurethane vinyl flooring instead of waxing to get it to shine. I was refinishing a night stand for my grandson & I accidentally brushed the floor with the brush and actually gave it the shine that I've always wanted.

If you scrub it and get all the soap and wax off, it will probably work. I never thought of that.

I think it will show scratches immediately and be very slippery

Restaurants that have wooden flooring use polyurethane on their flooring and it does not show scratches. There are household strength, and industrial/commercial strength. We have natural oak flooring and most every third or fourth year have it sanded stained and polyurethane coated again. This last fall when we remodeled our kitchen, we had the floor sanded and re-stained. The floor man suggested we use a commercial strength coating that is used in restaurants. He said it holds up for years under all kinds of constant use. It is only sold in one gallon size cans so he had to put on three coats because he could not store the sealer to use later. It looks great, no scratches, and he said it can be used on our laminated wood if we want to use it. Just a good cleaning to remove any oils and then buff and apply.

I used to have old wood floor that was painted with gloss brown paint when it would get dull I would go over it with polyurethane it would be glossey again for a couple more years I would think it would be the same for your vinyl . One note over time poly will turn a amber color was not a problem over dark color but over light color will be unevenly discolored. There is a product called polyacrlic made by minwax that does not amber.

A friend tried that and it was a disaster! It never dried so had to be removed.

When I was first married, my mother in law had varnished the tile floor in the kitchen where we first lived. It had yellowed. Took me and a kind friend 8 hours to scrape it off. Just my take
