Industrial Farmhouse Inspired Three Shelf Table

Originally, I thought I'd paint this entire table dark gray. But after I started sanding the finish to rough up the surface, I saw that the wood was actually pretty with the dark stain was removed.

This is what the table looked like before the transformation started. It was a basic out-of-the-box piece of furniture and not a priceless antique, so I had no problem with changing it.

And here is the totally different after. Doesn't the combination of the stained shelves and gray colored spindles look special? For some reason, the two together just reminds me of something with an industrial touch.

After being sanded, the shelves were covered with a thin coat of polyurethane and then a layer of Miss Mustard Seed's antiquing wax. The combination of the two really brought out a beautiful tone to the wood without staining it.

The gray spindles were painted with chalk paint, distressed, and then they were sealed with the same antiquing wax to bring all the tones of the piece together.

And would you agree, that these three shelves were practically made to display some ironstone and boxwood?!?! What do you think of my table?

You have good instincts! ...both for enhancing the natural wood and showing it all off with ironstone and boxwood plants. It's an interesting table design in itself, it looks sort of like it's upsidedown and should be standing on those 3 feet. ; )

  @Elaine Robinson @Gail Green Thanks for the compliment! I thought the same thing as both of you that the table was upside down. But there are little rubber feet on the bottom shelf that the bottom spindles screw into, so this is obviously the way it was supposed to be put together. I had thought of using the "feet" on the bottom, but then there wasn't anything to screw the top spindles into. I decided to just go with the way it was....and it has created a conversation piece :)
