Nicks in rustoleum cabinet transformations finish

by Denise L
I used the rustoleum cabinet transformation kit in the dark chocolate color on my builder grade oak cabinets. I love the way it made them look but before I could get the knobs on, I see there are scratches and nicks from finger nails in the finish. Does anyone have a way to touch up these spots that works ?? Thanks! Denise

You can try reaching out to Rustoleum. They may have a quick fix. You can find their customer support info here: http://www.rustoleum.com/Rustoleum/pages/help-and-support

It is paint. It will scratch and dent. I have heard putting on the glaze helps stop this. This is why I won't paint cabinets again. I did once and it was a mess especially the ones over the stove.

Have you thought about a clear coat to harden the surface, as it is the kitchen I would go with a marine coating to help with water, and it's affects.

As a 'quick' fix, I was told to use a magic marker in a color close to your cabinets, you can go over the 'scratch' then wipe off with a paper towel. This will 'hide' the scratch for the moment

i did use the glaze and the finish top coat that is a sealer. the problem seems to be in trying to get the touch up to stick because of the top coat..... will check with rustoleum also

Denise, were you successful with the home depot paint route? I'm hoping to do the same thing, but I have a larger area that needs repair so I'm wondering how yours turned out!

Lightly sand the area with 0000 steel wool. Then reapply the bond coat with a small artist paint brush following the instructions in your kit for dry times. When completely dry, carefully apply the top coat. I repaired mine this with good results. Good luck!

I just did a Hometalk post on this and a blog post: http://thriftyartsygirl.blogspot.com/2015/04/white-glazed-cabinet-transformations_18.html?m=1 I would recommend after you fix the scratches to put two coats of the supplied clear coat on so it will be extra strong!
