Turn An Old Door Into A Photo Gallery
This is my first post here on Hometalk and I wanted to share the photo gallery I made from an old 1930s door. Having seen others like it online, I just HAD to give it a try. My folks moved into assisted living recently, so I wanted to create a family picture wall for them.

I opted to leave the "white space" (bottom of the door), partly because I'm not handy with power tools, but mostly because I thought it would be a unique feature. The "family" plaque worked out perfectly! In case you can't read it, under FAMILY it says: The Love of Family Makes Life Beautiful. Makes me smile every time I see it!

The project was more tedious than difficult. Beside hauling it home and setting it up to work on (it was VERY heavy and awkward to move!), it required sanding, filling holes, more sanding and then painting a couple coats of latex paint. Picking the best family pictures was the most fun! Once selected and printed, I used packing tape to secure them on the backside. The hinges were added to the door once the studs were found in the wall and ended up being perfectly spaced on the door, based on the spot we selected on the wall.

In case you're curious, the long picture above was an old frame my dad had in his former office. For that frame, I printed immediate family group pictures from reunions (1980s to present). I think it compliments the gallery nicely. For the gallery pictures, I printed individual immediate family members (parents and siblings with spouses - except for "single" me) in the middle row and then the respective children above (first-born) and below (second-born - my sister's third-born went under my parents, who are in the middle). In the top center is a picture of the "elders" - my folks and their siblings. Yeah, a little OCD - but there really IS a method to my madness! :)
