Smells are powerful. So powerful, in fact, that according to a study from Oxford University found scent to be the most important factor when determining sexual attraction.
That gives the scent-status of your wardrobe a whole new level of importance, right?
If your closet's smell isn't doing you any favors right now, try one or more of these nine tricks to make your clothes smell great:
1. Coffee Grounds

Coffee grounds absorb foul odors, so placing a can of grounds in your closet will eliminate stink. Simply poke a few holes in a container filled with grounds, close the lid and store it in the closet. Once a month, switch out the can to keep things fresh.
2. Bar Soap

When a bar of soap gets warm, it releases a sweet-smelling scent that you can use to make your clothes more fragrant. So, pick a type of soap that smells good to you and try this out:

Place folded clothes in a large box or storage container with a lid, and cover the clothes with a breathable cloth like a napkin or thin tablecloth. Set the soap on top. Close the lid and set the box aside. After about four hours, the clothes in the box will have absorbed the scent of the soap.
5. Herbs in Cotton Bags

Fill small cotton bags with your favorite herb. (We recommend lavender or lemongrass.) Secure the top and place the bags inside your closet. Tip: Try placing a few packets in the pockets of your jackets or infrequently-worn clothes to keep them fresh.

  • Hi, My closet smells musty, I have tried the charcoal bags, the dehumidifier tubs and a bowl of baking soda. Nothing is helping! I have all 3 in the closet at this time. The closet backed up to the shower and there are no signs of water damage that I can see. Do you have any other suggestions?
