board & batten or beadboard?

We live in a 100+ year old cottage. We're looking to add an architectural element to the dining room, and I love both the board & batten look and traditional beadboard wainscoting. I'm just wondering if anyone has strong arguments either way? We do currently have a basic chair rail in the room, but I assume we will be starting from scratch either way.
