Got Wood?

Easy
Being in Germany, the dollar doesn't always stack us so well against the euro so we've learned how to create decorative home items using little to no money. We scored a bunch of pallets and free wood that had been left by construction workers building a house next door, we asked first :-), My husband took apart all the pallets while I googled "things you can do with pallets," this is what we came up with.
Pottery Barn Knock Off. Pottery Barn sells a similar 4-panel wall hanging to the tune of $424...Ouch! I printed out a USA map in poster size on our printer and cut and pieced the pieces together. I flipped it over and traced it on to the back of contact paper, cut it out, peeled off the backing and laid it on the 4 panels that we made from pallet boards that I previously stained. I then simply rolled paint over the big USA sticker. Easy and Free!
Another knock off of Pottery Barn Typeset Wall Art, which like most Pottery Barn items is way out of my price range. Blogger Nikki Cleary http://nikkicleary.blogspot.de/…/how-to-on-making-our-typew… offers a free printable for the letters and numbers. I printed it on A4 light greige colored paper. I had the wood left over from other projects. After measuring out 36 squares, my husband routed the lines. We added a frame made out of furring strips (again scrap wood) and stain the whole thing. I bought these black upholstery tacks for 2,19 for like a bazillion of them and nailed them in. I liked the look of Holy Craft’s Knock Off so I followed that http://www.holy-craft.com/…/pottery-barn-typewriter-art-kno…. Then, I used modge podge, glued the printed circles down, and gave the whole top a light coat. After it was dry, I sprayed it all with a matte, non-yellowing clear coat. Cost was about $5.00 for the tacks and the paper.
I made this from a piece of free wood that was used as a concrete form. After sanding off bits the bits concrete, I screwed in old knobs. Easy!
Sometimes one word is enough! Free wood and left over paint.
Reclaimed Wood Shelves? Nope, 2 wide pallets boards screwed together and IKEA Wall brackets for 1.29 each.
Kitchen shelves again.
More free wood pallet boards.
Candle holders with the birthdays of our boys made from 2 pallet boards screwed together and the candle shape chiseled out.
