DIY Trumeau Mirror

When I found out that this month's Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest was called "Icing on the Cake"... I had a Trumeau mirror in mind and almost all the pieces that I needed to make it.
Here is the finished piece... but you need to see its humble beginnings...
I started with this simple dresser mirror that I thrifted for $10.
But I needed something as a backing that was long enough to house the mirror and the swag that I had picked out from D. Lawless Hardware.
This picture gives you a rough idea of how I put it together. The heavy pieces were screwed in securely from behind and the smaller pieces were adhered with wood glue or hot glue.


I chose to use a centuries old technique that I learned through Farragoz's online course. It was quite time consuming, but the effects when distressing are really authentic looking.
