DIY Industrial Cabinet Hack

I am so excited to share this industrial cabinet hack - yes, that's right - it's an Ikea hack! You won't believe how this amazing cabinet started out.
This gorgeous cabinet started it's life as an Ikea Billy bookcase. Can you believe it? But it took a little elbow grease to get it where it is now.
We sprayed a couple of coats of paint on everything. The bookcase, the shelves, the casters, the bolts etc. We chose this paint because it gave the shelf a beautiful hammered metallic look. It is hard to see in the photo but the texture is really beautiful and gave this piece a more industrial feel to it.
Next we built our doors using 1″ x 3″ Aspen Boards for the frame of the door. And used the 1″ x 2″ Aspen Board for the cross member. We used our Kreg Jig and Wood Glue to assemble the door frames together.
As you can see we added many industrial touches including large casters, welding iron, and acrylic panels.
Here is a close up of these beautiful doors!!! I really love how the acrylic panels help to give this cabinet a very industrial look and feel.
A close up of the welding iron. Just a word of advice, these makes the cabinet heavy so make sure you enlist help if you need it!
We LOVE the way this project turned out. It now sits in our entry way and we couldn't be happier.
