Little Cheryl Rocking Chair Refinish

by Sharyn Diaz
I refinished a childhood rocker in loving memory of the beautiful lady who was the first child to rock in it. She LOVED red and chickens/roosters. I felt her guiding me to refinish it as she would have liked.
Hand made circa 1950, it was falling apart so repairs were made to return it to the sturdy little chair it was.
After prepping with liquid sandpaper and 2 coats of flat white paint, I used mod podge to affix the scrapbook paper to the seat as well as the front & back of the backrest.
I put 2 coats of Minwax polycrylic over the paper and allowed it to dry well before transferring the chicken graphic which was downloaded from http://thegraphicsfairy.com/
I distressed it added some black bands for interest, stenciled her name on the back and applied 4 more thin coats of polycrylic.
Now the great grandchildren are enjoying Nana Cheryl's chair at Papa's house.
