The cement has been stained but it is peeling. I would like to use chalk paint for a consistent color.

I don't think it would wear well. Use paint specifically for cement; scrape what you can off peeling paint, then clean and paint with one of these cement products.

I don't not recommend that. There are special cement paints available.

Last year I painted a couple of chairs with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint on my cement driveway, I didn't cover the driveway with a drop cloth. To this day I have not been able to remove the paint splatter, some of them very noticeable, on the driveway - so I'm thinking a chalk painted cement surface would wear just fine.

The basic answer is yes; the 'however' is that if you already have peeling, there may be moisture moving through your cement. Since you'll likely have to seal it, you may run into the same problem again. I would test a bad spot, and see how it behaves.

I recommend you go to a good paint store and ask advice. Cement paint is what you need. They can tell you every step for prep and application to insure a wonderful look that will last.

The cement paint seems to not wear well. I wouldn't use chalk paint. I would check on garage floor paint or porch paint. I think both wear well but ask them at the store.

The cement paint is the only way to go providing there is something to block the humidity. Why would they produce that paint then Barb.

Chalk paint is acrylic, water, and plaster of paris. Thus it will need a sealant on top to protect. I would clean the old cement of any peel, then apply the chalk paint. Remember to wait a day before applying the next layer(s). You will then apply a wax sealant on top after the paint dries. Annie Sloan waxes/paints tend to be on the greasy end of the spectrum. My personal preference is CeCe Caldwell. If there isn't a retail store near you, you can check the internet as there are shops that do ship.

You do not have to use wax..I would make sure all the cement is clean, all peeling paint removed. Sweep then scrub the cement..wait a couple days for it to dry. Use the chalk paint, do a couple coats, then after it is dry use an epoxy sealant. You might want to do dome cool designs on the floor...the epoxy will be a tough finish for the masterpiece.

You can also use porch paint on the cement floor, let it dry, then again use the epoxy.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint has no Chemicals, No Acrylic , Has No Plaster of Paris in it. It i9s purely Organic. The kind at big box stores or home made are NOT true Chalk Paint. You can paint Concrete if it is totally dry and clean. Use a thick roller and apply two coats, let cure over night. No need for a top coat. Annie Sloan dries hard and patinas over the years, never any peeling, chipping etc. I have painted concrete statues, my porch, all outdoor trim and that was 8 years ago. By the way my porch is concrete and a huge 120 year old wrap around porch that still gets rain and hot sun. You may have to slap on a coat about every 5 to 6 years but thats just to brighten it up again. You need to look into Annie Sloan Chalk Paint who actually Invented Chalk Paint over 25 years ago in England.

    Hello,

Yes you could but it won't last! Best use a Brick and tile paint on a clean surface.
