We live in Tennessee and this tree has started producing berries that look similar to a raspberry but are round. What is it and is it poisonous?

It could be a mulberry (which is a tree). I remember these growing everywhere when I worked in Armenia many years ago. There are a white variety and a black one. The locals make their own type of vodka from this fruit, and it's powerful. I'm just trying for as solution, post some pictures of the fruit. I hope you soon find a reliable solution.

I'm from SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (not Canada - don't know where Canada came from - I've never even been there). Anyway. What about taking a photo and taking it to the local plant nursery. I've done this quite a few times over the years. Best way to identify a certain species/Gabrielle FROM AUSTRALIA

This is a Kousa dogwood tree. I have two in my landscape. Flowers in spring.

No, Debbie, i dont think so, and they've even been used to make wine. I have read that the skin is unappealing. The Kousa variety of dogwood is a Korean ornamental with 4 season appeal, hardier against disease than the typical Florida Cornus variety. The fruits can be messy though, like crabapples, esp if near sidewalks (when stepped on after falling). I would not recommend consuming if pesticides are used in the landscape. You can contact your local university extension agency for more info - they are more than happy to help answer your gardening questions too.

This is definitely a kousa dogwood - the fruit is edible and wine can be made from the fruit. See the article/blog attached. http://arcadianabe.blogspot.com/2012/09/kousa-dogwood-another-urban-wonder.html

Kousa Dogwoods do, indeed, produce edible fruit. All of the nursery sites confirm this.

Here's a photo of Kousa Dogwood with the fruit. Have heard (not tasted) that the fruit pulp is very tasty but the skin is a little bitter.
