Dried Hydrangea Fall Centerpiece & Wreath

Bringing a little of the outside in, is always a great way to help usher in the changing seasons. Here I use dried Annabelle hydrangeas from our backyard to create an early autumn center island arrangement and wreath.
Our yard is full of hydrangeas...so I put them to good use. Before they get too brown, cut the flower heads off leaving a long enough stem to fit in a vase of water.
To dry the hydrangeas, allow them to sit in a vase outside, but out of the direct sunlight, for a few days taking in water. After a few days, the flowers begin to dry and stiffen.
Once the flowers are dried, I like to let them sit in a cool garage or shed so that any little bugs or critters can find a new home before I bring them indoors.
Bunch them in a shallow container or wooden box. Adding pine cones and miniature pumpkins and gourds is a great way to add an autumn touch.
Here I added a candle with a hurricane...
Because I had so many leftover flowers...I was able to take the extra and make a dried hydrangea wreath.
Using a straw form I was able to use my trusty hot glue gun to secure the flowers to the wreath. Many times, poking their dried stems into the straw is sufficient, but a little dot of hot glue helps keep everything in place. Keep arranging them until all the space is filled, sometimes nestling the dried flowers together helps create a compact look.
