Will chalk paint adhere to formica?

Question

I have a small bathroom on the first floor with an old, unattractive, single-sink formica countertop.  This bathroom doesn't see a lot of use, so I'm not worried about lots of water damage, etc.  I'm planning on painting the wood cabinet with chalk paint, but I was hoping chalk paint would work on formica if I sanded the surface first.  Also, would it be better to put a few coats of poly or can you only use wax with chalk paint?

Hi there, you may put a layer (either spray or brush it on) of primer and the chalk paint should adhere nicely. I would recommend poly 'ing to finish rather than waxing. Hope this helps! T

Lightly sand the formica to rough it up first and it should.

We used Caromal Colours, Reclaim, for laminate kitchen counters...no sanding or priming...just a good dose of Simple Green to clean them really good!

I painted a formica top ; Sand it to rought it up then apply Zinzer shellac. Then paint with chalk paint 2 coats then polly it several times. Treat it gentle and it will be fine. Clean with damp cloth.
