How to Remove Cigarette Smell From Three Major Surfaces

It’s unlikely that you are intentionally trying to make your home smell like cigarettes. But if you, a housemate or a previous tenant smokes, the smell will be there, and it will stay until you do something.
Getting rid of cigarette smell in your home is no easy task. Depending on how pervasive the cigarette smoke is, you may have to resort to drastic measures, but we recommend trying these tricks first.
Regardless of the surface you need to de-stink, do these three things after carrying out the treatment: http://bit.ly/CigaretteSmellNoLonger
1. Open your windows and air out any particularly bad rooms for a few days.

2. Purchase an air purifier and run it on the highest setting for several days.

3. Fill a spray bottle with essential oil like citrus or lavender and spritz fabric, wood furniture and all around your home as an air freshener.

Carpets

Sprinkle a generous portion of baking soda directly on to your carpets and let sit for ten minutes. Then, vacuum up. The baking soda will remove some lingering odor from the carpet fibers. For homes that have seen years of smoking, you’ll likely have to do this several times.

Walls

Along with a lingering smell, smoke can actually leave a yellowish tint to your walls. To get rid of both, wet a rag with all-purpose cleaner and wipe down each wall (spot check on a small area first to make sure you don’t damage the interior paint). Then, mix 1 part white vinegar to 1 part water and wipe down the walls again. This will remove discoloration and odor. If you still notice a stench, you may want to consider repainting!

Upholstered Furniture

Upholstered furniture can be one the most difficult things to remove smoke stench from, so don’t say we didn’t warn you. Because this is one of the most difficult parts of your home to banish smoke from, we recommend to either hire a professional or consider renting a heavy duty shampooer.
