We have had a recurring problem with moles in our yard.

We've tried poison and traps and once even resorted to the vibration devise we saw in a magazine. Nothing has worked. Is there a way to get rid of these pests once and for all?

A friend of ours planted "mole" plants that deter the moles and they've not had any problem since. They are poisonous plants; however, but beautiful foliage and grow quickly. I see them in a lot of landscaping projects.

I'm going to try the products mentioned in the utube video for a start. Would love information on the mole plants, though.

We were told to kill the grubs that they eat and they will go away. The trick is to get your neighbors to do it all at the same time. Otherwise, they will keep coming back.

Wow! Thanks for the pictures and heads up! I have never ran across anything that looks like that - almost looks prehistoric! After reading the stories I guess I will keep my moles!

Moles are territorial. Only one mole per acre. So you probably just need to kill the one, or get him to go to the next acre over. Lol

I don't know if this will work for moles but it worked for gophers. I sprayed my whole yard with a mixture of castor oil and water. They hated the smell and went to my neighbors. It has been a year and they are still gone. I get the oil at Walmart. Put 3 bottles in a sprayer that attatches to your hose. It took 6 bottles to do my whole yard. I had to fill the sprayer twice. Good luck!!!

The Euphorbia (Gopher Plant) is in the same family as a Poinsettia. They are a pretty cool plant in a perennial garden, but don't really prevent moles or voles. There is also The Castor Bean plant purported to be a mole deterrent. The seed is poisonous if swallowed. It is a wonderfully large and luscious leafed plant.

Cats do a pretty good job of catching moles and voles - and so do some dogs. Moles are looking for grubs in the lawn so using milky spore to control grubs in the lawn will decrease the mole population. One treatment will last for many years so it is cost effective. The euphorbia that was recommended can be an invasive weed and a bigger problem than the mole.
  • Mary M above has it right. The moles are there to eat the supply of grubs in your lawn. Eradicate the food source and they will move on to better pastures.

Ok, what's worse a grub or a mole. I hope the grub because my dogs chased a mole into my pond & not knowing what it was - I saved it and put it in another area of my yard. Heck, I help the helpless. The helpless turned out to be me. I never had seen a mole before but found out later what it was.

deborah Buck, see the post right abouve yours by Kara D. Dog droppings stuffed in the hole worked for her. That ought to be safe for your pets.
  • When you spray for gophers you need to make sure to spray from the house out. There are also other rodents such as voles and mice that use the runs of moles to eat the roots of plants and other delicious vegetation. My cats and dogs love to hunt but the holes the dogs dig is horrific on my lawn and beds. LOL I have also used cat poop in the holes and that works too. Christina from CA is spot on when it comes to castor oil ~that is the leading ingredient in the a mole repellent sold at stores.
