Quick & Easy Hand Sewn Upcycled Denim Storage Basket

Do you have old denim jeans you'd like to get rid of? Why not upcycle and turn the legs into cute storage baskets! So easy to do and you just need to hand sew three short seams?
First, cut off twelve inches of the leg portion.
Turn inside out and hand stitch, with a needle and thread, a seam about an half inch from cut off edge. Pull open leg and match center seams together, flatten, creating a triangular shape. Hand stitch across about two inches from pointed end. Stitch opposite side, making sure the triangles are even.
There you have it . . . just three seams!
Turn right side out and fold down outside hem. Ta Da!

how do you make the denim flowers

    • Gail@Purple Hues and Me on Jun 13, 2017

First, you need to make the denim stiff and fray free by brushing scraps with mod podge and allow to dry.
Next, cut out two circles and at least 32 free-hand petals to make two flowers. Hot glue six petals onto denim circle.Hot glue additional six petals on top between first layer and continue adding another layer of four petals. Using a thin pen or stick, roll petals under while pushing up. Cut a 1/4 inch wide strip about two inches long and roll up, gluing the ends. Hot glue to center of flower. Use your fingers to fluff up the petals.

    • Also use iron- on fusible backing before you cut out the petels!

I love the flowers but I am not very good with eye balling anything so app how big would you make the flower petals?

    • Gail@Purple Hues and Me on Nov 14, 2017

Each petal is about 1 1/2 inches long and 3/4" to 1" at the widest point. They look bigger in the above picture than they actually are.

Thank you!! I'm seeing them decorated with lace, buttons, ribbon, beads, ......
