I’m all about green cleaning ideas and homemade cleaning products. So when I found this recipe for a carpet freshener I thought, "let’s give it a try." We just got a second dog ( a cute puppy that has stolen our heats), and all our carpets could use a little freshening up. I was a little skeptical about this at first, but two days after I used it, a neighbor stopped by and took a deep breath and then asked me what yummy thing I was baking. She was so surprised when I told her it was my new carpet freshener. It definitely covered up the pet smells. Here’s the recipe:

Do you ever have those small accidents that happen and then the carpet needs to be cleaned, but its not big enough for going through the trouble of renting a full size carpet cleaning machine? Yes! I HATE paying my hard earned money for items like carpet refresher. This recipe has TWO ingredients, is all natural with no toxic chemicals, and works AMAZINGLY well for pennies.
I love cleaning and I've used almost every product and solution you can name, even industrial ones. I cannot any longer though due to severe allergies, therefore I had to devise a way to deep clean my floors but with mild cleaners. Those of us that have four legged family members realize floors can get dirt grinded in them if they are rough surface or have a lot of texture.

I'm already in Spring cleaning mode so I've been cleaning like a mad woman lately! We bought a Swiffer Bissell Steamboost Mop recently and it came with two of the cleaning pads for it. They smelled wonderful, but I was concerned that the solution on them may not be good for our three cats to be walking around on as well as the the refill pads are kind of expensive in my opinion, especially for as often as I mop my floors.
Mopping. Not really the most exciting subject matter. This is, until you find yourself the proud owner of floors that just don’t seem to come clean or that always look a bit lackluster. They can make your whole house feel icky and if you’re like most people, then you probably never really put much thought into whether you’re really mopping them correctly or not.
Here are six different ways to use three different teas - black, green, and mint. You can use unused or used tea bags; however, in some of the tips, the tea must be dry. This is a great way to recycle your tea after you've enjoyed a spot of tea.
File this one under "coolest trick ever"! If you have carpet in your home, then I'm sure you've had more than one "mystery stain" appear from time to time, especially if you have lighter-colored carpeting. If it's proving to be a little difficult to get that stain out, try my new favorite trick!
Commercial carpet deodorizers are great for getting the stink out of carpets and loosening up pet hair, but the heavy perfume fragrance can cause allergic reactions, contact dermatitis, headaches, and a number of other issues. Making your own is easy, it can be customized to a scent you like, and you can add some magical elements. The addition of salt to this recipe has the same effect as using a floor wash for banishing negativity and blessing your home, but for rugs and carpets.
I have dogs and that means that my home doesn't always smell like roses. Today, in fact, I am sitting here typing while smelling eau de wet dog. I wouldn't keep this cutie off of my feet for the life of me, though!
Since I have pets but I want a house that smells nice I like to use lots of "smell goods" including carpet deodorizer. It's hardly an expensive thing to buy at the store BUT I can show you how to make it for SO MUCH CHEAPER and in your absolutely favorite scents, too!

If you’ve read my other posts, you know by now I’m into DIY green cleaners: easy to make using household ingredients. I’m sure you’ll also notice I like to reuse and upcycle. Why purchase a new swiffer when I can turn the old into new? With that in mind, I decided to tackle a long due bathroom project: A DIY Tile & Grout Green cleaner to make my floors shine again! Read on to learn how to make yours.
I have made a ton of homemade cleaning solutions, but was a little nervous about making a mopping solution for my wood floors. I wanted to make sure that I could make something that wouldn't damage them, but will still get them clean. After much research, I came up with the perfect DIY Wood Safe Floor Cleaner!
Hi there, Hometalk friends! I'm snowed in over here in the DC suburbs and going stir crazy, so I decided to get a little cleaning done today. I'm sharing one of my favorite scents and homemade carpet powder mixtures...rosemary and lavender! I think that one of the easiest ways to give a room a pick-me-up is by using deodorizing carpet powder before vacuuming. For years I've used one of the major store-bought brands, and it worked really well, but last year I ran out and decided to use plain old baking soda. After all, it's the major ingredient in the store-bought stuff, and it's super cheap. By making the carpet powder yourself, you can also decide on the scent and how strong or weak you want it to be.
I'd Love to have new hardwood floors, but since that's not even close to being an option yet, here's a little tip to make them look clean and at the very least livable. Hope this helps at least one person be a little happier until they can get new floors too! :D
Remove carpet stains easily by treating them soon after they happen. I removed red spaghetti sauce from my carpet using this technique. Check out the detailed instructions in the blog post.
My husband has blown my mind when he has gotten spilled coffee and wine out of our carpets. He only uses water, a dish rag and an iron. Crazy, right? I thought so, until I saw the results.
