I love the look of a fireplace full of candles. It adds a romantic flair and makes the home feel cozy for the winter months. I had contemplated buying a number of pillar candles to achieve such an effect, when I thought of repurposing some lumber from my Dad's woodland property, as well as some birch logs I had purchased from Michaels craft store. (Yes that is right. They sell craft lumber at Michaels!) The result are these rustic branch candles, that are cheap and relatively easy to make.
A friend of mine that works at a bank knows how much I love upcycling, so one day she handed me a bag of paper coin wrappers and said. "here, what can you do with these?" I stared at them for a few seconds and knew immediately what to do.
I had a black medallion on our wall in our piano room. Recently we gave our son the baby grand. I was excited to make the old piano room into the new craft room. I had outgrown the old craft room which was also my office. My theme is Boho with lots of flowers!!!!!I wanted to decorate this with lots of silk flowers. I bought the nicer ones from Michael's (yay 40% off) and some from Dollar Tree. I don't have a picture of the bunches but I had a lot!

I found this little basket at the thrift store and I loved the shape of it with its square bottom. The handle was coming unraveled though, probably the reason why it was donated. It was half price that day so for $1.25 I figured I could do something with it. I decided to turn it into a bin to hold extra toilet paper in my guest bathroom!
This Spring as I was switching out the bedding in our master bedroom for warmer weather I was noticing how expensive pillow shams are. In my frustration trying to find A. new pillow shams to match our existing bedding and B. pillow shams were affordable I came up with a way to make my own for $7 for the pair!
I'm loving belly baskets lately... the plain ones are pretty... but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the dipped, pom, and tassel adorned ones!... so I've put together a DIY to show you some options of what you can do with the plain janes to dress them up for your home!...
I had a cute picture frame, but it was no use to me as the easel broke off from the back. :( I held onto it for ages. Hating to throw it away- so glad inspiration finally hit.
I've always loved the look of fresh peonies in the house but I've never had any luck growing my own. With this super easy craft, I can have the look of a peony bloom without having to grow them. All it takes is about 10 white coffee filters, washable markers, a peat pot to hold the bloom, and a burlap ribbon to top it off.

Creating your own fresh flower centerpieces are easier than you think. Many grocery stores have all the flowers you need to create a stunning arrangement in your home. I put together a few of my own and have broke it down into steps so you can make them too.
I was cleaning out one of my kitchen drawers and came across an old pack of paper doilies left over from a previous garden party. As I wasn't planing on having any more fancy garden parties for a while I decided to use them for something completely different.
I used the paper doilies as stencils to transform some plain cushions/pillows I had on my outdoor sofa. I warn you that this is an addictive craft as the results are fabulous for such little effort.

Six years into Zest and I am still a junker at heart. There is something so darn rewarding about grabbing something that has been discarded, and giving it a chic new life. Sam and I started Zest it Up way-back-when with the purchase of a bottle of Gorilla Glue, paint and some screws. Pulling furniture off the side of the road in Los Osos, CA, we breathed new life into literal trash and sold it at local consignment stores. Since those days, we have watched Zest grow and bloom into a passion driven company with a heart for makers, creativity, community, and learning. In all honesty, Zest is a way of life for us. It is how we see the world. So, when friends and clients find little junker-treasures that they are dying to give us for transformation, like this tray, I am blown away at the culture we are having fun creating! In less than 15 minutes of work time (more time needed for drying) you can create a fun and spooky Halloween pillow that is sure to make your spine tingle. I teamed up with Cutting Edge Stencils to make this Glow In The Dark Spider Pillow.
My inspiration for this project is a beautiful White Opal pendant that belong to my Grandmother. With all the awesome faux stone techniques coming out, I decided to try creating an Opal technique. When I started, my plans were to go in a completely different direction but as always with Unicorn SPiT plus my wild imagination, I never know exactly what I will end up with! I knew I wanted to create an opal look, but I had no idea how at first to accomplish this look.
