How to Decorate Your Fireplace

Start with paint: Choose a paint color that is most suited to your room’s decor. Two colors will add depth to your fireplace decor.
Display a basket of pine cones: Choose a beautiful and decorative basket. Fill it with pine cones or pretty wooden pieces. Place it on the floor near the fireplace.
Add a bowl of nuts: Display a decorative wooden bowl, an iconic nutcracker, and a few nuts that are still in their shells.
Create comfortable seating: Add an armchair or a rocking chair, and a soft rug. A firescreen will keep the sparks from damaging the rug and the furniture.
Place logs near the fire: Add logs for a beautiful visual effect. Having logs handy is also practical.

3 Easy Steps for Repurposing Old Canvas Art

I found this oversized art for $14.99 and was originally drawn to the frame only. But over time, I didn't' have the heart to paint this old canvas...even if it did represent old 1960's reproduction art you'd find in motels. I give old pieces "a chance" before I tackle them with a paint brush. The seascape grew on us...so I found a temporary solution by creating "new" art that I can change with the seasons, and still display the seascape if we want to at a later date. Backgrounds can be changed with each season.

What to do with vintage baby scale?

I found this pale blue baby scale in a vintage resale store and fell in love with it. It has a nicely aged patina so I don't want to do anything to destroy it. I just can't seem to figure our what to do with it. I put stuffed bears in it, then plants and didn't really like either. I'm stumped. I don't know if I should keep it on the floor or put it on a piece of furniture. After seeing all the creativity on hometalk I know you will have good ideas.
