Have an old suitcase laying around? Not sure what to do with it? Transform it into a beautiful decor piece for your home icon
I found her at an auction and paid $5.00. I knew I could make her into a gorgeous piece. She was pretty dusty and icky but nothing a little elbow grease wouldn’t fix.
Vintage Suitcase Before
I used by TSP to give her a good cleaning. This stuff is amazing! It removes all the dirt and icky stuff! You can get this off of Amazon.com.
Waverly Inspirations Chalk Paint
I decided to use a bottle of my Waverly Inspirations Chalk Paint. This stuff adheres great and it really durable! You can purchase this from your local Walmart. A small bottle is around $5 bucks and a larger bottle is $10 so its a very good chalk paint for the buck! I gave her two coats.
Wood appliques
I purchased 4 wood appliques off of Amazon.com. I wanted to give her a more shabby chic look. I used my hot glue gun to apply the appliques to each corner.
I used a smaller craft brush to paint the appliques so that I could get in the nooks and crannies. I painted all four with two coats as well.
Here she is....looking a bit more elegant I might add! I still felt like she was missing something. So I had my sister make a me a vinyl saying using her Cricut machine. I knew I was going to use this in my entry way, so I wanted it to say “Welcome Friends” and I wanted it to be silver in color. Even more elegant!
After I applied my vinyl saying I gave her a good coat of Polycrylic.

And here she is! Isn’t she just gorgeous! She sits in my entry way and welcomes everyone in to our home. So if you ever spot an old vintage suitcase, or have one laying around, it’s very easy to bring it back to life!

Very Nice!! I do have one that I could do this with and I think your idea is excellent so I am looking forward to making something like this! Thanks for the idea! I would never have thought of doing this with a suitcase.
