I found this used trunk on sale for $15 on offer up and immediately a light bulb turned on!! We drove one hour to pick it up and I bought it despite the fact my husband teased me all the back home calling me a hoarder 🙁😒...
I placed cardboard under it to protect it from the dirty garage floor and to avoid scraping it
I covered the smaller areas that were going to be spray painted in a different color with blue painters tape
I covered the larger areas that were going to be painted in a lighter gray tone with old newspaper
This is the front of the trunk
I spray painted the larger areas first and once it dried up within 48 hrs I covered the painted areas and removed the blue tape from
the smaller areas to continue painting
this is the back of the trunk
The finished product!!
I get a lot of compliments for this trunk. I bought a thick glass for $8 also on offer up to place it on top of it and protect the paint. Spray painted wooden surfaces tend to get scratched if the paint underneath it was not removed or sanded down.
I bought 4 wooden legs at home depot and screwed them under each corner to make it look more elegant and like a table. The legs come with a long enough screw so all I had to do was apply some wood glue where the legs would be attached and screw them in9. I did not like the trunk sitting on the bare floor.
Suggested materials:
  • 4 wooden legs, silver spray paint, charcoal spray paint, blue tape, scissors, wood glue, a screw driver,
  • Used marine trunk, cardboard   (Lowes, offer up)
