Old Spool Upgrade

For a while now I have been hoping to get my hands on an old electrical spool.
One of the really nice ones, though. You know the ones that are all wood — not the ones with the cardboard in the middle.
As luck would have it, I just so happened to find one that someone was tossing away. They had put it out by the side of the road with all their junk on spring clean up day.
I almost didn’t believe it when I saw it! How could someone throw out something soooo cool! Oh well, their loss is my gain.
Take a look and see what I did with this baby!
Here it is, as I found it.

Not bad, right? It’s in great shape.
I wiped it down, just to clean off the cob webs and then I gave it a good sanding
I used my palm sander and some 60 grit sandpaper.
After I sanded it, I wiped off all the dust and stained it with Minwax Penetrating Stain in Cherry finish.
This is my NEW favorite color of stain! I love it!
I gave the stain a couple hours to dry.
There are nuts and bolts on the top and bottom of the spool and I didn’t want to risk it scrapping up my floors, so I attached some small caster wheels I had to the bottom of the spool.
Easy Peasy!
This was a quick and easy project and a perfect example of how to beautify someone else’s junk!

I have it all set up in its new home! I just need to get some chairs to set on either side.
I’m gonna keep my eye out for some that I can repurpose!

Love it! Want to find one - I always keep an eye out, but have never been lucky.

I made one of these back in the 70's and made a little drawer under the top.
