Claw Foot tub

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Feb 18, 2014That is a extreme project you have in mind but all that not to difficult, but noisy. A Sawzall with cast iron blades made to cut that metal will work. Normal metal blades will also work, but will take more time and many more blades to do the cutting. I would suggest that where you plan to turn the cut to go across the bottom that you use a hole saw and drill holes in each corner as using a saw to make that turn is difficult at best. And the strain on the corner could crack the cast iron. So having a smooth corner all you need to do is aim the saw for the edge of the circle cut out. As you do this, use duct tape to hold the cut out section in place. Use a lot of tape and keep the section being cut out secure. Its going to take a few hours to do this in most cases and you do not want to crack the cast iron after all that work when you near the end of the cut. Also take some moving blankets or old drop cloths and place them into the tub and around it. This will help muffle the noise that will be created. It will be loud. Once done, you will need sanding disks on end of drill or grinder to smooth over the edges. Move quickly with that so you do not over heat the edges causing the tub finish to crack and chip.Helpful Reply
