each region has its own price points,, my 8x4 sheet rock may be 10usd, further south it may be 12usd. call about 3 contractors give each an identical wish list. see what happens. also check with the better business borough...any complaints about the contractors?
Carley, you should check out Home Advisor and let them know what your wanting to do. They can let you choose from electricians, plumbers, etc. to come out and give you estimates and ideas about costs and possibilities with what you’ve got already.
Do you know if the work done was inspected?
Just some thoughts. You’re not obligated to hire anyone, but you get their input. In my opinion, it might be worth it to hire an electrician and/or plumber in case there’s a problem in the future you’ve got a contract.
I agree with Dfm. Different parts of the country have different costs. Material, labor, construction methods determine price points. Best is to get at least three estimates and references from contractors on what you can't do. You can stain concrete or paint but don't do both.
drilling through the slab will be expensive.
It all depends on how large the basement is and just what needs to be done. You could do some of it yourself, like putting in the drywall and then get the pros to tape and mud to save a lot. What it costs depends on how much sweat equity you are willing to put in yourselves. When we redid our basement in a house years ago and only had to have the ceiling taped and mudded and the carpet and padding installed. We did everything else ourselves, including replacing a water damaged wall, putting in a half bath. and putting in all the drywall on the ceiling (someone had taken out the ceiling) and removing flooring down to the cement. I was also eight months pregnant with our second son, hot work (no air conditioning in the house) but it was doable to save money. We lived in a small town of fifteen hundred people, so you pretty much had to go to the nearest city to find really skilled people to do carpet installation, etc. We had a lot of handymen around, but were skeptical of the work they did from talking to others and wanted it done all at once, not taking two weeks. The basement was the only cool place in the house and we wanted to use it the rest of the summer.
Thank you all. Helps a lot.
