Dark wood wainscoting question.

Wanting to lighten up the family room but unable to remove/replace the dark wood wainscoting. Anyone have ideas how I could temporarily lighten this paneling without defacing it?

You can put bright furniture and colors around the room (curtains, couches, cushions) to brighten it up. -

You can paint over wainscoting with any color of interior paint 😃 I did this with white and it made the kitchen much cozier! -

Are you willing to strip it to the natural wood and then put a coat of poly on it? You could always restain it dark at a later date. -

You can cover it with fabric. Cut the fabric to the size needed, then soak the fabric in liquid starch, then apply it like wallpaper. If you want to ever change it, it just peels off. You can put trim (ie: ribbon) on the top edge for extra interest.
